Bringing Light to Moral Issues of Our Time
LJB+ Films is the passion project of Linda Broocks, a trial lawyer who believes that film is the most powerful agent of social change.
LJB+ Films has tackled two of the most pressing issues facing our society today, the continued practice of the death penalty and the sexual exploitation of women. The United States has the dubious dual distinctions of being an outlier among its close allies and other democracies in its use of the death penalty, and of being recognized as one of the worst countries in the world for human trafficking, specifically sex trafficking. LJB+Films Mother’s Day: the Forgotten Victims of Death Row and Unleashed: Survivors of Trafficking seek to educate viewers about these issues and the often unexamined consequences of each.
Linda Broocks first made documentaries during the era of Super 8 celluloid Tri X film. Although she pursued a career as a civil commercial trial lawyer, she maintained her interest in and study of documentary films. She has also worked on a number of pro bono or court-appointed criminal appeals, including successful habeas appeals of two capital murder convictions. More recently, she has volunteered with organizations aimed at providing services to women who manage to escape the “Life” of sex trafficking. She returned to film making in 2017 with the release of Mother’s Day: the Forgotten Victims of Death Row, her first digital film.
“If you’re not living on the edge, you’re just taking up space.” Cliff Sundstrom's adapted mantra drives him to the edge of storytelling both in documentary filmmaking and corporate communications. Where are the stories that aren’t being told? How can we tell better stories? In this pursuit Cliff has led production teams for narrative/doc filmmaking, network sports television, and Fortune 500 organizations through his production companies Nexus ATX, www.NexusATX.com, and GovCon Different.
